WESTERN EXPANSION @ Philip Slein Gallery, St. Louis
The Philip Slein Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Western Expansion curated by Justin Giarla, owner of the San Francisco’s White Walls and Shooting Gallery. The exhibition will showcase the kind of work the west coast is famous for–lowbrow–with its influences of pop art, street art, outsider art, punk rock, comic books, the surfboard, skateboard, and hot rod subcultures. Artists exhibited will include Shepard Fairey, Blek Le Rat, Greg Gossel, Aaron Nagel, Casey Gray, Akira, David Soukup, Shawn Barber, Kevin Cyr, Van Arno, Above, Ian Johnson, Jessica Hess, Jesse Hazelip, and Cheryl Molnar among others.
In the spirit of new discovery and ground-breaking creativity in arts we look West to find inspiration and new ideas, new territories. Western Expansion represents a new vanguard of artists and forward-thinking minds that pushes the boundaries of traditional visual arts and explores new directions within modern art era mediums and techniques.
The opening reception for Western Expansion at Philip Slein Gallery is Thursday, September 16th at 8pm. The gallery is located at 1319 Washington Ave., St. Louis, MO 63103.
